When food is not processed by the digestive tract the proper way it produces indigestion. Indigestion can be caused by eating too fast, eating foods that you do not like, or eating too much. Some home remedies you can try to alleviate an upset stomach are as follow:
Ginger – Put a teaspoon of fresh ginger root in a cup of boiling water. Let stand for a few minutes and then strain. After meals, sip a cup of hot ginger tea.
Chamomile tea to soothe an upset stomach – Drink a cup of chamomile tea three times a day after each meal.
Apple cider vinegar for indigestion - In a glass of water put a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and drink after meals.
Peppermint tea – Drink a cup of peppermint tea after each meal. Do not use if your indigestion is due to gastoesophageal reflux disease.
Lemon grass tea – This tea is also a good remedy to relieve indigestion.
Fennel seeds – If you are suffering from indigestion because you over ate, chew a few fennel seeds.
Baking soda and lemon - In a glass of water dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda, add a few drops of lemon, and drink. This will neutralize stomach acid. Do not use this remedy if you are on a low sodium diet.
Eat pineapple to improve digestion - Before your meal, especially if you are going to eat a lot, eat a few bits of pineapple. The pineapple contains proteolytic enzymes (bromelin or bromelain) that help the body make a quick digestion.
Eat slowly and chew well – When you eat too fast, air enters the digestive system and produces indigestion.
Loosen clothing – Clothing that is too tight can cause indigestion. If you feel unwell loosen up your pants or skirt.
Ripe plantain - This fruit is very good for relieving inflammation of the stomach in addition to being a natural antacid.
Drinking a cup of Pu-erh tea after meals aids digestion and helps to lose weight.
