Can Too Much Sex Affect Your Health?

Proper sex is an important part of a healthy life. While science suggests that sex can improve mood and decrease anxiety by reducing stress signals in the brain. Having “Too much sex” can come with several side effects to the health. Ayurveda recommends being moderate in sexual acts as to not waste precious sukra dhatu (Semen and Ovum).

Sex and the Ayurvedic Perspective:

-10 strokes (penetration in and out) is the minimum considered to be healthy.
-30 strokes is moderate – within the normal range.
-40 strokes is maximum (Note: the Kama Sutra says 80-120 strokes is optimal).

Too Much Sex and Health:

For Women:

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) – For women the urethra—the tube that goes from outside up into the bladder—is positioned right next to the vagina,” says ob-gyn Mary Jane Minkin, M.D., clinical professor at the Yale School of Medicine. When you have sex, bacteria from the vagina can get rubbed into the urethra, where it travels up to the bladder. And when you have a lot of sex in a short period of time, it can make you more susceptible to urinary tract infections.
Soreness and Swelling – Feeling sore and swollen can be an unfortunate consequence for women in particular. Sometimes you can have a lubrication problem. If you have that, there can be vaginal excoriation or vaginal scrape which can make any type of penetration-related sexual activity very difficult.

For Men:

For a man who is very forceful and who likes rough sex, it is easy for him to damage his erectile tissue. Penile tissues can sustain damage due to over indulgence in sex. In some cases, it can even cause permanent damage.
Other Side Effects of Excessive Sex:
-Dizziness
-Exhaustion
-Loss of strength
-Depletion of tissues
-Loss of acuity of senses
-Strained muscle(s)
-Dehydration
-Injured nerves
-Heart attack
